FortWhyte Alive has grown and evolved since it began over 50 years ago. In that time, hundreds of thousands of people have found their true nature here, walking the trails, paddling the lakes, and breathing in the fresh air of the aspen forest.

Winnipeg has also grown, making FortWhyte’s hundreds of acres of marsh, forest, and prairie more vulnerable—and even more precious.

Now, FortWhyte Alive is undergoing a $40-million redevelopment to ensure you and everyone in our community can keep having amazing natural experiences right in the city.

  • expanded indoor and outdoor interpretive and programming spaces that educate and inspire visitors to make their own earth-friendly choices; and
  • A new visitor centre and Manitoba’s most climate resilient building, ‘Buffalo Crossing’ on McGillivray Boulevard.
